The Space Issue

Back when my husband and I were dating we made the joint decision to live with each other before we took our relationship to the next level of commitment: Marriage.

The Master Bedroom only had 1 closet and growing up himself with 3 women, he knew that 1 closet was just not enough space for him and I. So he built an additional closet in the room for me! How sweet, huh? The closet was basic: it had upper and lower hang bars, room for bulky stuff above and some hooks inside for belts.

It was such a kind gesture! I never had the heart to tell him it did not work for my clothes. The hang bars were too close together so my tops ran into my skirts/pants/dresses and they crinkled at the bottom, which made them become wrinkled and dusty all the time. My purses were so high I could never see all of them and would forget about them. I had no space for my belts, scarves and jewelry.

Fast Forward 8 years and I cannot take it anymore! That closet and I are at war. My strategy is to win this battle and it began with some major RESEARCH. I spent my time looking at different closet systems and mapping out what I needed in my new closet.

When attempting to organize ask yourself:

•Do you like to fold or hang?

•Is the current you own current?

• Do you have the clothing worn often accessible?

Having such a small space, I needed to maximize and keep things streamlined. I found this system at Home Depot and it was perfect for me:

 1. Fit my budget 2. Fit my needs.

My needs were:

I needed a place for everything and I wanted all my items streamlined into one space. Guess what? I was able to do that! I used to have my items spread out in different cubbies and also in another room, but with careful planning I was able to house all my categories in one closet!

Yea! My skirts have NO crinkle, wrinkle or dust!

I have not put doors up yet because I’m still trying to decide if doors or curtains are for me. I’d rather wait for the perfect item than put up something that does not work for me.

Update you once I decide…

Make The Best Of It!

A favorite family photo was knocked over by my kitty.

Normally most people would throw it away, but I saved it hoping an idea would come to me to re purpose the frame.

Sure I could glue and re paint, but what else could I do? Hmmm…then oh how I  love Pinterest- I found my idea!

Pretty Makes You Pay Attention

Printable labels come in all sizes, shapes, and colors. I like printable labels; I just don’t like what happens when you need to change the label. That sticky glue residue stays on your item and creates a messy mess.

I like to use post it’s for my labels and the reason why is that post its are so much easier to remove and they have really cute ones out there.  If I decide to label an item and then change my organization, I find that if I need to change the label, the post it easily comes off and I can make a new one. No mess, no glue residue, no extra buying.

Closet Tune Up

My client decided to do her own organization in her closet and she did a really good job! When she completed her closet organization something felt off to her…

She could not exactly put her finger on it, because the closet looked neat but something was not working.

She contacted me to conduct a Closet Tune Up. Here are some things to remember when organizing your closet.

My husband and I have been doing DIY projects um…uh  wow for about 10 years now!   I have this ugly spot right outside my kitchen windows, that has been wearing me down. Each time I thought I would re do this area something would happen, we have been flooded, dug up, backed up and much more in  this area, needless to say it has been left there and ultimately has earned the titleugly spot.

Don’t worry your time has come little ugly spot I am going to make you shine, just you see!

All I need to do is go shopping, not the shopping where I go to a store but the kind of shopping,

where I Re Purpose items I already have. What can I gather for my new transformation?

All the items we located right in my back yard…

just  a little cleaning, wiping off and paint  did the trick.

Expertise Needed

A family with too may hobbies can create a lot of  chaos and clutter.

The garage was in need of my PDR  approach.

(Purge-Donate-Repurpose)

The family was involved with so many different pursuits some current and some not so current.

This project called for specific planning and organizing , allowing each family member to evaluate

what hobby they wanted to pursue and which they willing to let go.

Going thru the entire garage with the whole family we determined we needed to create space for fishing, surfing, skateboarding, gardening, dog rescue, diy projects, crafting, memories, seasonal decorations, tools and 2 cars.

Once we got thru the purging process we had a clear idea of the amount of items that we then needed to create specific areas to hold each hobby.

I wanted to make sure that each space could hold their items and also allow for their hobbies to expand.

Mom Foster animals-this is her Pet Center

After much work from all we were able to create the space for all hobbies and fit 2 cars! How did we do?

My DIY- What do you think?

I have been holding onto a little secret. For the past few months I have been on a major treasure hunt, each week I have been searching for someone’s discard and slowly transforming it into my very own treasure.

This little end table had seen better days.

Before-Can you see potential?

Now it’s in the perfect spot and the drawers allow me to store items that  don’t need to be out on display.

After- few coats of paint

After- with new knobs

After-in the perfect spot

How did I do?

A Closer Look

Purging isn't always the key, sometimes using the space more effectively is helpful

This bookcase became a dumping ground for the family,

prize possessions were soon lost and never to be seen.

Sometimes your clutter can take shape in all different sorts of places.

You soon begin to block it out and the clutter begins to grow.

By flipping the magazine holder the clutter begins to look more minimized.

No matter how big or small the project contact me
